Special Bonus Awaits!

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

لَّقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لِّمَن كَانَ يَرْجُو اللَّهَ وَالْيَوْمَ الْآخِرَ وَذَكَرَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا
Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much. 33:21

Special Bonus Awaits


All praise is for Allaah, Lord of all the Worlds, who ordered us to follow His Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and to call to His Way, and may Allaah send praises and blessings of peace upon our Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), and upon his family, his Companions, and those who truly follow them until the Day of Judgment.

Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari (radiyallahu ‘anhu) related the Messenger of Allaah, (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), said : “Whoever observes the Ramadan fast and follows it with six days of fast in Shawwal, it is as if he has fasted Dahr (the whole year).” [Sahih Muslim (1163)]

It is even related from Thawban (radiyallahu ‘anhu) that the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said : “The fast of Ramadhan is like observing ten months of fasting. Fasting six days of Shawwal is like observing two months of fasting. This together is like fasting throughout the year.” [Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah (2115) and
Sunan al-Nasai al-Kubra (2860) – and authenticated by Imaam al-Albani (rahim’ullaah)]

Imaam Al-Nawawi (rahim’ullaah) observes [Sharh Sahih Muslim (8/56)]: Scholars have explained that it is like observing a year of fasting because the reward of one’s good deeds are multiplied tenfold. Therefore fasting the month of Ramadhan is like fasting for ten months and fasting six days in the month of Shawwal is like fasting for two months.

Shawwal is the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. It is highly recommended to observe six days of fast in this month which may be observed continuously after ‘Eid-ul-Fitr or it can be observed separately during the entire month, whatever is easiest. However, one must first makes up for his missed fast of Ramadan, if any.. Before starting fasting the six days of Shawwal.

It is to be noted that this does not apply to the person who has missed fasting the whole month of Ramadhan and made up for it in Shawwal for he or she then does not fall under the category the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) referred to in the hadith : “Whoever observes the Ramadhan fast and follows it with six days of fast in Shawwal, it is as if he has fasted Dahr (the whole year).”

Ibn `Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhu) , Ka`b al-Ahbar, Tawus, al-Sha`bi, Maymun bin Mahran, Imaam Ibn al-Mubarak, Imaam Al-Shafi, Imaam Ahmad bin Hanbal, Imaam Ishaq al-Rahawayh and others hold that is preferable and recommended to fast six days in the month of Shawwal, but Imaam Maalik differed in this particular matter, as Imaam Ibn `Abd al-Bar explains in [al-Istidhkar (3/380)] : “Imaam Maalik (rahim’ullaah) did not know of the hadith related by Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, even though it is a hadith from the people of Madinah. No one possesses all the knowledge held by others. Imaam Maalik (rahim’ullaah)explained and clarified what he disliked about it, He was afraid that it would be added to the obligatory fast of Ramadan by the general public. Imaam Maalik was extremely cautious when it came to matters of religion”.

However, we know that Imaam Maalik (rahim’ullaah) had clearly said : “Truly I am only a mortal : I make mistakes (sometimes) and I am correct (sometimes). Therefore, look into my opinions: all that agrees with the Book and the Sunnah, accept it; and all that does not agree with the Book and the Sunnah, ignore it.” [Reported by Imaam Ibn `Abdul Barr, Imaam Ibn Hazm and Imaam al-Fulaanee]

وَمَن يُشَاقِقِ الرَّسُولَ مِن بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الْهُدَىٰ وَيَتَّبِعْ غَيْرَ سَبِيلِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ نُوَلِّهِ مَا تَوَلَّىٰ وَنُصْلِهِ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَسَاءَتْ مَصِيرًا

“And whosoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) after the right path has been shown clearly to him, and follow other than the believers way, We shall keep him in the path he has chosen, and burn him in the hell-what and evil destination (4 : 115)
